Check out our recent visit to Las Cucharas in Lanzarote!

Lanzarote 2015

It's been a while since we've run a Windwise session in Lanzarote. We last ran a Windwise session off Matagorda man, many years ago! This year we ventured to Costa Teguise for two weeks in search of wind and waves. We sailed from Lanzarote Club in Las Cuchuras and were hosted by Laurent and Russell and the rest of the Lanzarote Club team. There is a large safe bay and on the headland you effectively get a point break that offers a great play ground to catch and ride waves.

Windsurfing in Las Cucharas is defined by the volcanic back-drop, the sheltered bay and the point break at the upwind break water. We had two very different weeks with a split between decent wind and sadly getting skunked! Alongside the windsurfing we had some well deserved sundowners, tasty tapas, awesome mountain biking, WindSUP cruises, SUP downwinders, island adventures and fabulous lunches at Poco Loco CafĂ©!

Week 1 'Wind, Waves & Bike'

We sailed everyday with a mix of blasting, catching and riding waves, plus some really valuable Skills Training sessions on larger kit. We ran through the 'System' and targeted the component skills that enhance everyone's sailing and aspirations to enjoy waves. We also checked out some great eateries, cool sundowners and took on a wicked bike ride to Famara!

Week 2 'Board & Bike'

Well, what can we say, sadly we were well and truly skunked! We did ventured out, but we were hit by a heat wave and that killed the NE trades to virtually nothing. We did 'some' skills training and on the very last day we had decent sail, but we were disappointed and unlucky not to get more. It has been many years since we've be so skunked and windsurfing can be a cruel mistress. But we didn't sit there and let it get us down!

We took to the mountain bikes and ventured to some amazing places around the island, we also did a SUP downwinder to a Casa Tomas for a fish feast. We found some really great places to eat and the week was a lot of fun despite the lack of breeze!

Thanks to everyone one joined us, for all your effort on the water and especially for those on week two for your understanding and being so game with the adventures, biking and socials!

Here's some shots from both weeks!
